Aside

crisp march

Grey clouds filled the skies in the hours counting down to 5:00P.M. The sunshine that filled our office throughout the day was suddenly doused by a thin blanket as water sputtered against the wall-sized window. With my arms still aching from lifting bags of mulch the day prior, I exited the building into the bright evening. The air was slightly humid, yet cool enough for the blue jacket I had on. It was perfect weather for rolling down the car windows and slinging my arm out carelessly- blasting music on the drive. By the time I made it home, my left hand was red, damp, and cold. And it was one of the most wonderful feelings.

As March comes to a close I want to take a moment to remember some other things that stood out to me.

MOVIES: My month began with watching Frozen and Saving Mr. Banks with my dear college friend, Adriana. I think I’ll be asking strangers if they want to build a snowman for the rest of the year. And I’m pretty sure everyone who can hear has ‘Let It Go’ running on a loop in their head. The latter was a spectacular heart-felt film that I’d recommend for anyone who finds learning backstory fascinating. It’s pretty deep for a Disney film. And you’re going to want to watch Mary Poppins afterward. // This past weekend, I concluded my March entertainment with a viewing of Divergent with Renee. I was pleasantly surprised with Shailene Woodley’s performance and the overall film. I’ve read the first two books of the trilogy and am currently taking a break in my Harry Potter reading marathon to soak up Allegiant.

FOOD: Mylo Coffee Co. had its first two soft openings this month! I know Renee and all of her co-workers were excited to finally start serving us their fancy pastries. I’m so happy everything is working out for her and really enjoyed the industrial atmosphere of the bakery/coffee shop. I look forward to lunch there soon. // Last week, some of my co-workers/friends and I went to The Root in Little Rock. This was my first time there and I have to say that cheeseburger I had was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted before. It was unique and delicious. The sweet potato fries were mouth-watering as well. The spring breeze and great company made it that much more enjoyable.

OTHER: I had the opportunity to see Les Misérables at the rep last Sunday with one of my best guy friends. It had been a long time since I went to the theatre and it was such a beautiful day to walk around downtown Little Rock afterward. // Theology on Tap this past Thursday was excellent. We had a monk from Subiaco Abbey speak to us about death. He definitely gave me a lot to think and pray about and it was a good night for catching up with old friends and making new ones. // Sadly, we’ve also had to say goodbye to some very lovely souls. May they rest in peace. In particular, two former mentors of mine and my friend’s grandmother. God bless.

Overall, March has been quite an enjoyable month. I am blessed to have been a part of it. And now I’m going to go watch the last episode of How I Met Your Mother…
